Baker City Taxi Company

By Chet Smith

This is 1922 Baker City Taxi, owned and operated by Jess Smith, the father of Chet Smith of Baker City.  The taxi is parked curbside at the old post office, looking north across the wide intersection of Bridge Street and Auburn Ave.  Clark Auto Electric fronted Main Street and the Wilshire Hotel fronted Resort Street.  Both were destroyed in 1933 and the present Chevron gas station was built.  The IOOF building, present home of the Record-Courier is in the background.
