CROUSE, Abram (Abraham) (105.1) had nineteen children, four of which are buried in Bayview Cemetery. Abram Crouse ran a logging operation on Milton Creek. Abraham and Bethiah brought their family from East Washburn (Crouseville), Maine to Yankton, Oregon in 1892. Later they bought land in Houlton (West St. Helens), Oregon, and lived where the landmark redwood tree still stands today. Abram is buried next to his second wife, Bethiah (Clark) Crouse (105.2). 1) Abraham and Bethiah Crouse’s first child is Eldridge Crouse (40.6) a prominent house builder in St. Helens. Next to Eldridge is his wife Lilla (Cronkite) Crouse (40.5). 2) Abraham and Bethiah Crouse’s second child is Hulda (Crouse) Blakesley (106.8). Her husband Walter W. Blakesley (106.7) is the same W. W. Blakesley who in the January 27, 1893 Oregon Mist Newspaper was one of the I.O.O.F. officers when the cemetery was created. Hulda Crouse’s first husband was Charles Fred Abbot (29.3). 3) Abraham and Bethiah Crouse’s third child Charles Crouse (105.5) was a logger and mill mechanic. His wife Lewella (Malcom) Crouse (105.3) was from a pioneer family in Hudson Community. The infant buried between Charles and Lewella Crouse, Ethel Crouse (105.4), is their granddaughter, the daughter of Wallace and Laura (Whitney) Crouse. Ethel Crouse was born and died in 1928. 13) Abraham and Bethiah Crouse’s thirteenth child, is Colen (Coley) Crouse (108.3). He was a logger in his early years, owned a livery stable business, and later worked for the Columbia County Road Dept. Buried near his wife, May (Welch) Crouse (108.2) and himself are three of their children who did not survive to adulthood, Klenneth Crouse (male)(108.3), June Crouse (108.4), and Errol Crouse (108.5). Baby Decker (Lot 174.3) is the great-grandchild of Abraham and Bethiah Crouse, the grandchild of Lincoln and Bernice (Crouse) Decker (both buried in the Bethany Cemetery), and the child of Harold and Grace (Howell) Decker. Many other Crouse family members are buried in other Columbia County cemeteries. ============================================ The above information was sent by Roguer Crouse 2 May 2000 Roguer Crouse ADDS the following answering my (TOMs) questions: =================================================== [You can publish my address, P.O. I am more a family historian than a genealogist. I enjoy learning about the peoples' lives, copying personal photographs, learning about their favorite pastimes, and what their pets' names were. Also, I am curious if there are any cemetery records available for photocopying. Sincerely, Roguer Crouse kinfolk.net@juno.com p.s. I visited Bayview Cemetery last Saturday with my sister and my niece. It is very nice to see the care the cemetery has received recently. We were passing through and had to stop at Evelyn Bartlett's Country Inn for some pie. Evelyn's mother was Nina Crouse. We also always stop to visit Gilbert Crouse. He used to own the St. Helens Chronicle/Sentinel/Mist newspaper and he palled around with my dad when they were kids.
