FILES, RAE, REA posted by Patsy Skeels on Thursday, April 9, 1998

My gr-gr-grandfather, William RAE/REA is proving to be a very elusive person to track down. On a marriage index for Walla Walla County, WA, he is shown as marrying Sarah E. FILES in 1875 in Walla Walla. William is said to be from Umatilla County, Oregon. Family sources say that he emigrated from Liverpool, England and that he was a sea captain. A sea captain in Umatilla County? Would he possibly be living in Umatilla City and running a steamboat? Is there a directory for Umatilla City? Does anyone know of a source that chronicles steamboats and their captains on the Columbia in the 1870's? Around 1885 William, Sarah, and their five children moved to Portland, Oregon. William died around 1886, but no definite verification of that. Any help appreciated.

GOODWIN, HIGGINBOTHAM, WINN posted by Larry Rader on Friday, April 10, 1998

My great aunt, Eva HIGGINBOTHAM, was married twice: (1) m Apr 3, 1919, Jesse William WINN,b 1896; d Jan 3, 1958 Walla Walla. (2) m Feb 10, 1967, Dee GOODWIN. She was living in Milton-Freewater, Umatilla Co., at her death-- Feb 3, 1970. I did not find an obituary in the in the Walla Walla newspaper. I am very hopeful that someone might be able to look for it in a local paper. I have no information on Dee GOODWIN, but believe that he out-lived Aunt Eva. In my mother's family file there is an old tin type that I believe might be a picture of Jesse WINN's family. That's all I know. Can you help me construct a query that might net some assistance? Thank you.
