George Hall came West to Hangtown, Calif. with $.05 in his pocket and made $5.00 the first day mining. In 1862 he made his way to Auburn, Oregon, where he was appointed first sheriff . Sarah Jane Lowry and young brother worked their way across the country on a wagon train. Shortly after arriving at Auburn she married G. W. Hall. They were first couple married in Auburn.
