Baker County Pioneers Surname Hindman

HINDMAN, MCCLURE JACKSON settled in Pocahontas 1864. Later had corrals and stockyards on Fourth Street across from where the St. Elizabeth Nursing Home now stands. Later he had ranches at "Express" located between Pleasant Valley and Durkee. The family crossed the plains alone but were accompanied by several scouts.


HINDMAN, WILLIAM, brother of McClure Jackson Hindman. - came across plains at the same time 1864. First he spent two years freighting goods, then he took up a homestead and buying more land for farming and raising cattle. In 1867 he was elected first legislature from Baker and Union Counties. His living descendants in Baker County are:
